Founded in 1985 in Montpellier by four journalists, Reporters Without Borders is today a leading organization in the world for the defense and promotion of freedom of information. Recognized as a public utility in France since 1995, the international organization has consultative status with the United Nations, UNESCO, the Council of Europe and the International Organization of the Francophonie.
An independent organization based in Paris, RSF has 14 offices around the world and correspondents in 130 countries. The association is a key interlocutor for governments and international institutions, and each year publishes the World Press Freedom Index, which has become a reference tool.
Since 1992, in order to finance its actions independently, RSF has been publishing “100 photos for press freedom” photo albums three times a year.
