THE STARS OF THE DOCUMENTARY
30 FILMS, 30 DIRECTORS, 30 MEETINGS

Every year since 2005, Les Étoiles du documentaire has awarded 30 works declared to its audiovisual repertoire, having been broadcast for the first time. All documentary genres are concerned: reportage, portrait, episode from a series, institutional film, web documentary and digital artwork.
Through this initiative, the Scam affirms its desire to support authors in their diversity and their aspiration for ever greater creativity, originality, authenticity and rigor.
Les Étoiles not only provides financial support to authors via an endowment of 4,000€ per Star, but also recognition and visibility in the profession.
First of all, the Scam’s Audiovisual Repertoire Commission preselects 60 works from among the applications submitted by the authors. An independent jury of five authors then chooses the 30 Stars of the Year.
The thirty starred works are programmed during the Festival des Étoiles at the Forum des images in Paris, then in the regions.
These thirty screenings on the big screen are followed by meetings with the directors. On the closing evening, the Audience Award is presented to one of the starred directors.

Created in 1981, the Société civile des auteurs multimedia (Scam) brings together 46,000 authors of the documentary genre: audiovisual, radio, literature, journalism, translation, photography, drawing, writing and emerging forms. It defends their profession, provides legal advice, awards grants for writing assistance (Brouillon d’un rêve) and prizes (L’Œil d’or – Prix du documentaire à Cannes, Prix Joseph-Kessel, Prix Marguerite-Yourcenar, Prix Roger-Pic, Prix Christophe-de-Ponfilly, Prix Albert-London…) and supports many festivals (Fipadoc, Lussas, Cinéma du Réel, IDFA, FID, Figra, Prix Bayeux, Visa pour l’image, Etonnants voyageurs. ..).
Every year in November, the Scam organizes its Festival Les Etoiles du documentaire at the Forum des images in Paris.
