Festival Les Étoiles du Documentaire 2021

Editorial by Georgi Lazarevski, president of the jury of the Étoiles (extracts)
“When the Scam proposed me to take part in this jury, it had been a year since the pandemic was raging, that we had fallen into a world of “barrier” gestures, a world almost without cinema.
I was wondering. How to continue filming? How to capture the unpredictable, the chance and the grace of an encounter, to continue to try to reach the deepest part of a character, to stand by his side, to feel his emotions when a mask is blocking his face and the injunction to stay “at a distance” is imposed everywhere? How to go towards the other, towards the unknown?
Sixty films to see, it was a chance to escape from these interrogations to glimpse the world before.
(…) We all know how much energy it takes to carry the dream of a film, and the difficulties to have it shown if it does not quite fit into the framework imposed by the famous “distribution boxes”.
May these Stars and Awards encourage the authors and broadcasters who defend this freedom with constancy and talent.

The jury of this edition was chaired by Georgi Lazarevski, accompanied by documentary filmmakers Feriel Ben Mahmoud, Mathilde Damoisel, Raphaël Girardot and Stéphanie Lamorré.
