Born in Algeria in 1935, Jean-Pierre Laffont is a graduate of the École des Arts et Métiers in Vevey, Switzerland. He then served in the French army during the Algerian War (Cross of Military Valour for his humanitarian actions).
He emigrated to the United States in 1965 and, with his wife Éliane, became a founding member of the Gamma USA and Sygma Photo News agencies.
For fifty years, Jean-Pierre Laffont travelled the globe and photographed the news, personalities, economic and social problems of his time. His images appear in the main international magazines: Time, Newsweek, New York Times, Paris Match, Le Figaro Magazine, Stern…
