Robert Doisneau – 100 Photos for the Freedom of the Press

05.11.26

Photography, like journalism, is always an act of commitment. Both proceed from the same requirement: to look before concluding, to testify before judging, to transmit before seducing. In contrast to the spectacular, Doisneau chose patience. He knew that a sidewalk, a schoolyard, a workshop or the zinc of a bistro could reveal more about an era than the galleries where they were told.

What if, behind the images that have become icons, there was a surprisingly modern look, tender and funny, but above all free, rebellious and deeply humanist?

With the unpublished contributions of Clémentine Deroudille, Marie Desplechin, Patrice Leconte and a foreword by David Castello-Lopes.

Following the portfolio, the collection’s flagship event, the last notebook places RSF’s fight at the heart of the album: defending, everywhere in the world, a freedom of the press that is essential to our democracies.
