Reopening of the Musée des Augustins – Toulouse

Reopening of the Musée des Augustins on Friday 19 December.

Closed since 2019 for major works, the Museum of Fine Arts of the city of Toulouse, housed in a former convent of the 14th century, reopens its doors on Friday, December 19.  It is a museum open to the city and accessible to all, which visitors will discover. A new reception building, designed by the Aires Mateus agency, now offers an entrance with contemporary lines, perfectly accessible and integrated into its heritage environment.

The visit route, too, has been entirely redesigned offering a renewed narrative of the collections, presenting well-known works and others that are less well-known, highlighting new themes and introducing contemporary perspectives. This new journey is carried by the museography designed by Scènografià.  This complete overhaul is based on a new scientific and cultural project. Are thus highlighted the links of the museum and collections with the history of Toulouse, the constitution of the collections, sometimes stereotypical representations that resonate with very contemporary questions… So many lines of interpretation that make the museum an essential place to understand today’s world.

The reopening of the Musée des Augustins is also an opportunity for the public to follow the last stages of the construction site and in particular the restoration of the grand cloister, the only cloister from the 14th century entirely preserved in the great South-West of France.
