Raymond Hains – A small retrospective

Arles ·

19.06.21 → 19.09.21

Raymond Hains, inventor of the visual pun, is an extraordinary artist.
All frameworks, even that of the New Realists, a movement created by Pierre Restany in the 1960s with Yves Klein, César, Arman, Spoerri and the couple Jean Tinguely-Niki de Saint-Phalle, are too narrow for such a complex and literary work. Reading and annotating a book a day propelled Raymond Hains into spheres rarely reached.
This exhibition shows the plastic diversity of his work over half a century: the man of palisades and truisms invented a new language, another rhythm of the passing time, a time of rebound.
