Erwin Olaf – 2020 & Before – A Journey in Black and White

In 2017 he painted the portraits of the royal family and in 2019 he took over the collection of the Rijksmuseum with more than 500 works. Now in his sixtieth year, Erwin Olaf has been offered a retrospective of 40 years of his career at the Gemeentemuseum and the Fotomuseum in The Hague. Erwin Olaf and the Rabouan Moussion gallery present 2020 & Before – A Journey in Black and White, an exhibition showing the evolution of his practice from the first deliberately subversive photographs to his current works, photographic paintings more familiar to the French public, showing intimate interior scenes whose apparent perfection reveals the uneasiness and solitude of the subjects.
