For thirty years, under the light of the Mediterranean and the free figure of the Arab-Andalusian philosopher Averroès, the Rencontres d’Averroès imagined by Thierry Fabre offered every autumn this ephemeral port of call, welcomed in Marseille by the theatre of La Criée. It is now, for this second stage, to a collective to take up this legacy, with the freedom, audacity and generosity that have made a very large public faithful to this Marseilles appointment.
Preserving this bond of trust with the citizens is one of the challenges of the new project, and its extension to new audiences is another.
The «Nouvelles Rencontres d’Averroès» therefore follows, produced and organized by the association Des livres comme idées. These “New Encounters” are first established in a desire to continue to animate the life of ideas, to stimulate debate and encourage citizenship. It is a matter of crossing desire and curiosity, and recognizing the need to continue gathering in rooms, around tables and scenes, to reflect collectively, to move, to talk. To look at the Other as a possibility rather than a threat. To think, tirelessly, that the Mediterranean is a sounding board, whose noise, whispers and possibilities must be heard.
