Fécamp · Les Pêcheries, Musée de Fécamp
08.11.25 → 08.03.26
Les Pêcheries, Musée de Fécamp, presents the exhibition Jean Gaumy. Océaniques from 8 November 2025 to 8 March 2026, dedicated to one of the great names in contemporary photography.
A member of Magnum Photos, the Académie des Beaux-Arts and official painter of the French Navy, Jean Gaumy has strong ties to Fécamp and Normandy, where he lives with his wife Michelle, whose works are also on display.
The exhibition brings together a variety of maritime photographs from the collections of the MPP – Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie (Heritage and Photography Media Library): Fécamp smokehouses, the port of Le Havre, tuna fishing, trawler campaigns, life aboard submarines, oil disasters, polar landscapes and Normandy cliffs.
Objects, film and literary references enrich the exhibition, bringing Gaumy’s world and his inspirations to life. The exhibition offers an artistic and sensitive look at the maritime world, while questioning our relationship with others and with the landscape.
Organised in collaboration with the National Maritime Museum in Paris and the Heritage and Photography Media Library, it is inspired by the exhibition Jean Gaumy and the Sea, presented in Paris in 2025.
