The Stedelijk Museum is the place where everyone can discover and experience modern and contemporary art and design.
The mission of Stedelijk is to enrich the life of everyone through modern and contemporary art and design. Through our collection, exhibitions, publications, research and educational programmes, we offer a fresh perspective on the present, both at an individual and societal level.
By creating interactions between the public and art, we draw our inspiration from the dialogue with the artists. We translate the urgent questions about the present, past and future, asked by the artists and identified by ourselves, into an inspiring program. In doing so, we manage, renew and make accessible our renowned collection.
In the Netherlands, we are constantly redefining our pioneering role in visual arts and design. Internationally, thanks to our collection and our leading programming, we can innovate. We explore and define new paths and prefer to question conventions rather than confirm them. As we have always demonstrated, we prioritize experimentation, in order to better understand and comment on the present through art and design.
