Transcripts of a Sea or Le point de vue du naufragé.
“Une” Mer, and not “la” Mer so that everyone can take ownership of this incredible experience: for years, the photographer immersed himself to capture in all weather shots that he only saw once this odyssey was complete. (…) Do not look for a horizon line; what you will most often perceive is a waterline. The horizon, on the other hand, is rejected into the invisible. Only counts now the flexible blade of an undertow, the splash of a wave exhausted in its flight, the black liquor of a night water. These formless materials are not landscapes. The figure of the castaway in Transcriptions of a Sea is that of the milieu with which he is now one.” Michel Poivert
“What they say about the sea is true. Or no, it’s not. It’s much worse.” Stephan Vanfleteren
