Montélimar · Musée d’art contemporain – Montélimar-agglomération
12.05.26 → 31.10.26
In 2026, following on from the major successes of the exhibitions Play, play, play, retrospective William Klein (21,653 admissions) and Genesis by Sebastião Salgado (28,662 admissions), Montélimar-Agglomération presents a new retrospective dedicated to the Swiss writer-traveler Nicolas Bouvier at the MAC. (1929-1998).
Author of works that have become references for generations of adventurers around the world, starting with his masterpiece The Use of the World (1963), and the Scorpion-Fish (1982), this explorer, image curious and iconographer, was also a photographer. The upcoming exhibition, from May 12 to October 31, 2026, proposes to discover this little-known aspect of his work, two years before the centenary of his birth and the year of the bicentenary of the invention of photography.
The images of Nicolas Bouvier, mainly taken during his trips to Japan between 1955 and 1970, are linked with those of major photographers. This immersive exhibition unveils more than 130 photographs – rare argentics and color prints – during a stroll punctuated by texts by Nicolas Bouvier.
